Thank you, Madam Chairman.

Thank you for holding this hearing allowing me to be here today.

What number is 'many more'? More than one?

If struggling borrowers cannot discharge their loans in bankruptcy, and if your banks will not give them loan modifications, Mr. Hunt, what are they supposed to do?

I hope that the Senate will reconsider that important legislation again in the fall because refinancing student loans would potentially save borrowers billions.

Borrowers who are in serious financial trouble... can get a fresh start on pretty much every kind of debt by declaring bankruptcy.

There really is no substitute for bankruptcy protection. But, the banks went out and lobbied to make sure that they were going to be exempt from the bankruptcy laws, and now they will not even provide the modest relief that is provided on…

Is it available or not?

The banks have not forgiven those loans. They have not provided adequate relief to this family, and I do not know how many other families are in those circumstances.

What is this family supposed to do that now has three children to take care of and $100,000 in nondischargeable student loan debt from a child who died?

We are not talking about performing loans and you like to reach out to your customers and say, have we got a deal for you.

Paid family leave policies are in place for, again, sort of serious health conditions, new babies, in three States, California, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

The United States is the only high-income country not to require paid family and medical leave, and the result is dismal.

That's a good step. They need more money.

I appreciate the work that Moms Rising is doing on this to draw attention to the importance of our getting paid family leave here.

A new baby should be a cause for celebration, not a path to poverty.

I do hope that Massachusetts succeeds and joins actually Senator Murphy's great State of Connecticut in becoming the second State to offer paid sick days to workers.

Good. Thank you. I think that is at least a hopeful sign, so thank you very much.

Basically, just to underline your point, that means we do not need the complexity in the system.

I do not want this to be, 'and then a miracle occurred.'

I want to ask about this, and that is, again, this question about the impact on seniors.

I just want to make sure we get a couple of questions on the record here that we are able to build.

We understand we do not want to have over-utilization. We want to get appropriate utilization.

These two things were not in tension with each other. When used appropriately, they seem to reinforce each other.

In fact, relying on clinical judgment, according to our best evidence, saved money. It did not cost money.
