Americans have never been dependent on a foreign country to produce our food supply, and I hope that we never are.

While we may not agree on every issue, it is part of the Agriculture Committee's history that we are just not disagreeable.

The National Potato Council (NPC) applauds the Committee for holding this important hearing.

I remain committed to passing comprehensive immigration reform.

Strong bipartisan support exists in the House and Senate for a legislative fix.

I wish I could say the Agency's apparent lack of regard for American agriculture is an anomaly, but history tells us otherwise.

My colleagues and I understand the continuing need for Federal policies that promote and facilitate global food security for the benefit of our own national security.

We have been blessed in this country with abundance, though we recognize that food insecurity is still a very real problem around the world and within our own communities.

The food industry has recently announced the development of a voluntary smart label, specifically designed to provide consumers with this information.

I think we do need a national standard, and I am willing to work with you and your agency to help make that argument as we move forward.

I would urge all Members of Congress to support the passage of the Child Nutrition Act reauthorization in time for it take effect for the new school year this fall.

Entrepreneurial efforts of individual producers certainly drive success in direct marketing ventures.

Direct marketing is enjoying a resurgence driven both by economic considerations, as well as the desire among consumers for better relationships with those involved in food production.
