Pat Roberts is a former United States Senator from Kansas, serving from 1997 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he was known for his work on agricultural policy and national security issues during his tenure. Before his time in the Senate, Roberts served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1997. Throughout his political career, he focused on issues important to Kansas, including farming and rural development. Roberts was also involved in various committees, including the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, where he played a significant role in shaping agricultural legislation.
And your lenders would support that? I know you are quoting your lenders a lot. Your lenders have told you something like that?
If this bill is enacted into law and cage size is increased, what is the benefit to human, to human health from a food safety standpoint?
Why are we considering a law that calls for 144 square inches for white eggs or, for that matter, 130 or 150?
After the deal was reached, were you ever formally polled to see if you supported the agreement?
If you control 90 percent of the market and you have a welfare standard that should be available, knowledge to all consumers, why do you need the Federal Government to set a new standard?
Do you have concerns that a regulation like this will just lead to even more consolidation in what is already a very consolidated industry?
What does make sense is a national production standard that is fair to everybody, that treats everybody the same, and that reflects our country's ideas of fairness and humanity.
