I certainly appreciate what Senator Tester had to say and I look forward to learning more from this hearing about how we can do our jobs, as a committee, better.

For too long, veterans have been exposed to toxic substances during the course of their military service, and they have faced overwhelming barriers to get the VA care and services that they deserve.

I cannot imagine one of them thought they were doing anything that might harm a family member, or somebody who may not even be born yet.

Senator Blumenthal and I have worked to try to make certain that we get the scientific and medical evidence necessary.

The fact that it is not occurring in Community Care is not a result of anything that the VA is doing to restrict that from occurring in the community.

In my view, unfortunately, it is coming through Congress in an expedited manner, that we will not have, as this Committee, the opportunity to debate and amend, or even understand that legislation.

During my time on the Senate Banking Committee, I have been an advocate for an independent Fed and want the Fed to make decisions based upon best policy without significant political interference.

I think we can accomplish a lot on behalf of those who served our Nation, working together.

Caring for our veterans has always been a unifying force during my time in Congress.

Cooperation, bipartisanship, should and will continue.

The challenges we aim to address on behalf of our veterans will be a mix of those existing and ongoing issues.

I take serious issue with any effort to change those access standards or restrict veterans' eligibility for the program.

I will vote for your confirmation.

I would love to see this Congress work better than it does.

No mission is more noble than the one you will lead if you are confirmed.
