Northeast Indiana is home to 48,000 veterans. These men and women have served our Nation with honor, and it is my honor to serve as their voice in Congress.

The challenges that we face as Americans aren't Republican problems or Democrat. They're American problems.

It is our duty to help break down any barriers and help our Veterans transition to the private sector.

It is my honor to serve as their voice in Congress on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Chairman Stutzman, Ranking Member Braley, and Members of the Subcommittee, thank you for your focus on the critical issue of veteran employment.

We passed that in the House, and I know while this bill doesn't bestow any additional benefits, I definitely believe that it is worthy and needs the recognition.

Our Nation's military has sacrificed a lot in the last 10 years. One percent of our population has served in uniform.

We are here today to hear from Iowans about the employment difficulties facing far too many members of the Iowa National Guard.

It is a privilege to serve alongside Congressman Braley. I call him a friend as well as an advocate for veterans issues.

Perhaps no veterans' service organization understands the importance of sports as a rehabilitation tool more than PVA.

We would like to thank this Subcommittee particularly for its efforts to expand sports and recreation opportunities for disabled servicemembers and veterans.

This Committee's first responsibility to our veterans is to enable those injured in military service and to have the broadest opportunity to rehabilitate themselves.

I believe the VA-U.S. Paralympics program is the right thing at the right time and that is why I have introduced H.R. 2345, which extends this program through 2018.

I believe a measure of transparency on the costs is important.

The schools have a right to expect payment, but they also have an obligation to their veterans to adjust their processes.

I introduced H.R. 2301 to reduce the administrative burden on both the VA and the schools as a means to speed up processing.

I think the point is that we are trying to get at, with the fiscal situation that we are in, eliminating frivolous, wasteful conferences that really appear to be extravagant in spending.

We must substantially reduce our federal spending so that America will remain globally competitive and our economy will get back on track.

I believe that a biennial budget cycle will result in better scrutiny of federal spending and the elimination of wasteful and duplicative government programs.
