I personally believe that, once again, we were duped by this President, because I actually ran into somebody in my district who said, 'Oh, the President's going to do something about it.' I said, 'No, he just said something.'

The evidence is sufficient to conclude that advertising and promotional activities by the tobacco companies cause the onset and continuation of smoking among adolescents and young adults.
It's unfortunate that we are discussing such an important topic and I think I just heard the Fox News description of the legislation we are contemplating today.
Hopefully, we can get through this legislation with the least amount of politics and focus on the issue at hand.
I hope and pray that we all learn from this both as practitioners in the field and also as policymakers.
I believe that when this side of the room looks more like that side of the room, I think that, especially when it comes to issues facing women and families, we are going see much quicker, much more accurate results out of what happens in…
It is vital that we pass my bill, HR 1109, the Mental Health Services for Students Act.
Yesterday, I joined my colleagues Tony Cardenas, Tom Graves, and Buddy Carter in introducing bipartisan legislation that would codify, in Title XIX of the Social Security Act, the Medicaid transportation benefit.
H.R. 1109 is supported by the Mental Health Liaison Group, which consists of 51 mental health organizations.
My bill would provide $200 million per year for five years for 100 school-based pilot programs on mental health nationwide.

A person who is born in Puerto Rico and a person who continues to live in Puerto Rico, whether they are 6 weeks old or 60 years old, is that individual an American citizen?
I am very proud to say that, because of the leadership of people like you, Ms. Nichols, and a few other folks around the country that agreed with California, we have improved those standards to the point that my children never had to deal…
The bottom line is that we in California have been working hard to reduce the air pollution so we can breathe cleaner, safer air.
I introduced this bill because babies have been dying unnecessarily since 2009.
Legislators, collectively, aren't necessarily known--our track record isn't that great of hitting the nail on the head when it comes to fixing big problems, unless we get tremendous help from experts so that we can hopefully narrow it down…
Thank you very much, Madam Chair, and I appreciate the witnesses sharing your perspectives.
The reason why I want to point that out is because I hope that the dialogue doesn't get mired into, you know, what caused this.
The common denominator is the patient. That's the common denominator, and then try to figure out how do systems fulfil their obligation to stay afloat and provide services out there in the communities.
What bothers me, and you're hearing my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats, saying we need help to understand what's going on out there in the real world; otherwise, we are going to provide a solution and you're not going to like it.
