I appreciate your being here.

I tell people I hate asbestos, OK.

We must ensure that all relevant agencies are working together towards a comprehensive regional solution.

We are still dealing with the problem, now at unprecedented levels--over 143 million gallons of raw sewage was discharged in a matter of weeks in February of 2017.

Some of the rhetoric coming out of the White House has interfered with that.

We need to make substantial investments in projects along the U.S.

I look forward to working with this committee in the near future to identifying the safest ways to transport this waste to its ultimate resting place.

I want to thank the committee for its past efforts in 2000 and 2004, and a hearing in 2007 to address the problem.

I don't want to blame you for a system that we have set up here that encourages these bizarre incentives.

What we have here is what economists call a 'market failure' at best.

I just expressed the concern. I appreciate that too, and I appreciate the Administrator from Region 9 has been active and present.

Supports the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities along the border with all projects benefiting communities on the U.S. side of the border.

I think that is the wrong way to go for such an important program that provides so much leverage to communities for environmental protection.

Investment in diplomacy is a--is very cost-effective, in terms of defense, as well as trade.

This investment in the State Department, which is a cost-effective investment in our national security.

I am personally disappointed at the President's withdrawal from leadership in trade through trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

I would suggest that this is extremely counterproductive, and I think it should be opposed.

I believe it is a tremendous undertaking to remake the entire health care system in the United States.

Again, that is at variance with California which has had the most successful uptake rates in the country.

I just do not understand the logic of bringing us to this point.

I certainly think we should root out the waste.

With respect to the border, responsible border governance includes protecting migrants and honoring our international obligations for asylum claims.

Adding more red tape doesn't actually speed that up. It slows it down.
