The so-called arms race has only one participant—the Soviet Union.

The alliance will have removed at least five nuclear weapons for every new missile warhead we will deploy if the negotiations in Geneva don't lead to an agreement.

We seek peace and we seek security, and the NATO decision serves both.

We will stay at the negotiating table for as long as necessary to achieve such an agreement.

NATO took a dramatic and far-reaching decision, a decision that puts us a giant step along the path toward increased stability in Europe and around the world.

Since 1948 our Nation has recognized and accepted a moral obligation to assure the continued existence of Israel as a nation.

If we turned our backs on Lebanon now, what would be the future of Israel?

The Committee shall terminate on December 31, 1983, unless sooner extended.

Freedom is not something a nation can work for once and win forever.

We must not strip every ounce of meaning and purpose from their courageous sacrifice.

We're a nation with global responsibilities.

With patience and firmness, we can help bring peace to that strife-torn region—and make our own lives more secure.

I hereby designate the week beginning March 18, 1984, as National Poison Prevention Week.

Our objectives in providing this support are clear.

Let me repeat, the United States objectives are clear: to protect our own citizens, to facilitate the evacuation of those who want to leave, and to help in the restoration of democratic institutions in Grenada.

I have authorized the Armed Forces of the United States to participate along with these other nations in this collective security force.

We have taken this decisive action for three reasons.

This deployment of United States Armed Forces is being undertaken pursuant to my constitutional authority with respect to the conduct of foreign relations and as Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces.

American lives are at stake.

This action that is being taken is being taken under the umbrella of an existing treaty.

We want to be out as quickly as possible, because our purpose in being there is only for them to enable—to take over their own affairs.

It is that constitutional power of appointment, so long a part of the American political tradition, that is at stake here.
