Ronald Wilson Reagan was an American politician and actor who served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of governor of California from 1967 to 1975. Reagan's presidency is noted for significant tax cuts, a strong anti-communist foreign policy, and the deregulation of various industries. His administration also faced challenges such as the Iran-Contra affair and economic issues, including inflation and unemployment.
We believe population programs can and must be truly voluntary, cognizant of the rights and responsibilities of individuals and families, and respectful of religious and cultural values.
Because more useful industry and DOT initiatives are imminent, the Administration opposes passage of S. 1485.
The administration has proposed to terminate both the EDA and ARC programs, because they have been ineffective in stimulating economic development while adding to the Federal deficit.
The administration supports enactment of S. 328 but recommends that the bill be amended in two ways.
