This welcome initiative by the Congress properly calls attention to the many valuable contributions made to our country by the millions of German immigrants over the past three centuries.

I have today signed H.R. 7102, a bill which reforms the protections afforded farmworkers under Federal law.

This resolution designates the period commencing January 1, 1983, and ending December 31, 1983, as the Tricentennial Year of German Settlement in America.

I'm delighted to have been asked and to participate even a little bit.

That’s why we’re stressing job training—to make sure that those people who might find that jobs have been permanently lost, that there’s other work they can do.
