By promoting international security through collective defense arrangements and by fostering cooperation in the political realm, NATO has contributed to unprecedented peace and prosperity for all the peoples of the Treaty area.

I also urge all citizens to participate in appropriate activities and ceremonies in recognition of the achievements of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and its contributions to America's security and well-being.

I have instructed the Department of Defense and other agencies of the executive branch to support this study and provide needed information and assistance as a matter of high priority.

Only a combined policy of a strong budget surplus and monetary restraint can now be effective in cooling inflation, and in ultimately reducing the restrictive interest rates forced on us by past policies.

Inflation is a form of economic aggression against the very young and the very old, the poor and the thrifty.

I also ask the medical and allied health professions, the communications industries, and all other interested persons and groups to unite during the appointed month in public reaffirmation of this Nation's efforts to control cancer.

We shall not do this in this administration.

What we are going to do is to do our job and then a few months from now, I think you will look back and say we did what was right.

I think it could be said without fear of contradiction that this is one of the most successful meetings of this type

I am suggesting that when we look at those facts, there are some limited actions that the United States, I think, should take.
