Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1969, until his resignation on August 9, 1974. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. Nixon's presidency is noted for significant foreign policy achievements, including the historic opening of relations with China and the policy of détente with the Soviet Union. Domestically, he is recognized for establishing the Environmental Protection Agency and implementing various social programs.
Can we arise to the challenge of these times which seem so difficult?
I do believe in a system which insures that a man is rewarded for working, and not penalized.
Scrubbing floors, emptying bedpans--my mother used to do that--it is not enjoyable work, but a lot of people do it.
What we want to do, in other words, is, if we possibly can in this great, rich, good country of ours, provide greater benefits for those Americans, and there are many, who cannot take care of themselves.
The work of keeping the Republic requires more than just preserving the past.
When a majority of the Governors and a majority of the mayors and a majority of the county officials and the majority of the people are for something, the Congress eventually will reflect what the people want.
