So does GSA oversee all leases under the Federal Government?

This seems like it is trying to get around the process, almost like a blank check.

Just under GSA properties, 1,500 properties----

We expect to exceed that goal.

We are committed to working with you on this, as well as the administration, on their proposal.

One of the things that this committee is looking for that we had discussed 30 days ago was how to streamline the process.

So what type of oversight is there over the independent agencies?

We stayed up all night going through it. Arizona, New York, and Texas in the new leases.

Political from both the local level, as well as sometimes Members from Congress that may have an interest in a specific area.

I certainly want the information about the DoT. That is something that came as a surprise to this committee.

We need some fast answers.

And shouldn't a sovereign entity do what is best for them on their lands rather than having our budget dictate to them?

I guess, specifically it is frustrating to me to see a shift in priorities.

Certainly I have concerns with the fish and wildlife protections and the funding levels that those are at.

Why are we putting a greater priority on fish and wildlife protections rather than on economic development?

Will all the cuts in the administrative budget slow down and further hinder tribes from acquiring the permits?

Do you have the procedures in place so that it does not get any worse that it already is today?

Would you agree with that, that that is the main purpose of the BIA?

I would like to see a detail of all of that.

I believe--it's my belief--that the American people expect the ridership numbers to pencil out, so that it's not an ongoing subsidy.

But that is what we are doing right now today. As other states give up money, we're trying to grab that money.
