Welfare should be a safety net, not a lifestyle.

I believe in common sense, people working hard and being rewarded for that effort.

Privatisation was a success … I don’t think that Andy Burnham running the water companies is the answer to those problems.

[Labour's] answer is to let dangerous offenders out even earlier instead of building the prison spaces we need.

A violent criminal doesn't become less dangerous just because the government has run out of prison cells.

The fact is that there is a problem with the boats. People are worried, the government needs to stop the boats. That’s the fundamental issue.

I believe in the right to protest. This is something that is an ancient right for this country. We should always respect that. However, I do not condone violent behaviour, violent activity and intimidation.

Welfare must be a safety net for those who genuinely need it, not a lifestyle choice for those who can’t be bothered.

If you can work, you should work. Helping people into work is not punishment. The best welfare is a well-paid job.

Some will say this is unfair on people claiming benefits. What is unfair is a system where someone who can work chooses not to and earns more from benefits than someone in a job.

I want people to see that the Conservative party is getting its act together. We know we got a lot of things wrong.

We just don’t want this any more. People saw the Conservative party doing all sorts of things that they didn’t like, and I said, I’m coming in to clean this up.

What are we uniting about? It’s not just policy; it’s also character.

What I have said is that it’s about uniting the country, not just uniting the right. Uniting the country behind common sense is what Conservatives want to do.

The best welfare is a well-paid job. So, we will be tough on those who exploit the system because the current system is unfair to workers, taxpayers and those who truly need support.

Holidaymakers are choosing rival cities in other countries for the simple reason that it saves them money.

We have iconic retailers, inventive designers and brilliant manufacturers, but they are being let down by a tax policy that is chasing their customers away.

It is time for us to cut costs, get growth. And that means allowing business to create jobs, not taxing them till they close down.

This is not what we do. We are just taxing and taxing. The government has run out of ideas. There's no imagination.

I don't want to see a tourism tax. Not in a conservative council, not in a Labour council.

We have people who live in areas that are quite expensive and if people need local housing allowance they will need to move somewhere cheaper.

What we're doing is making sure that people are protected, but capping the amount that people get on benefits because we need to look after our national security.

Cut welfare spending and invest that money in our defence

We would spend 3% of GDP on defence by 2030.
