I don’t understand why all of a sudden some people are policing other people’s identity.

Conservatives choose differently. We have fully funded defence spending at 3% of GDP by 2030, because keeping Britain safe cannot be another promise for some distant point in the future.

Families can make their own choices. Businesses can build and innovate. But only government can defend the country.

I have said that the triple lock is our policy and it remains our policy. I don’t think going after pensioners is the right thing when there are loads of people who can work, who won’t work.

We are not messing around - we are very very concerned about the state not just of our defence but the state of our economy.

When we win the next election, and we will, we are going to need to hit the ground running. We will need to be ready from day one having already shown people what kind of government we are going to be.

I am not going to announce tax cuts unless we can show how we pay for them… tax cuts are a good thing but you’ve got to be fiscally responsible.

It is morally right that people don’t get taxed twice. It is morally right that if you work hard and want to give something to your children the government doesn’t take it away.

We have to be different, different from Labour, and different from the party we were two years ago.

People shouldn't be punished for working harder

It doesn't matter what you earn - we don't want you to be punished for working hard. What we're trying to do is grow our economy.

What we want to see is more people in work and not taking the wrong decisions or the wrong choices, and it doesn't matter whether they're earning £10,000 or £100,000 - what matters is that people are out there working.

What we don't want to see is people going after the elderly, chasing after vulnerable and disabled people, and then the extremely large cohort of people who can work, who are not working, are left alone.

What we want to see is that people who work harder don't get punished for doing so.

I don't want lots of little ghettos of separatist communities where they are recreating the place they come from - that will ruin the United Kingdom.

What is really missing from politics and government today is people prepared to say no.
