I commend Chair DeFazio's work on this historic bipartisan legislation, which provides vital investments in the country's infrastructure.

Last December, the Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act was signed into law to restore the integrity of the FAA's aircraft certification process and make flight safer.

This hearing and this legislation are not about just one aircraft.

These two tragedies ended the lives of 346 people.

I look forward to today's discussion on how best to support the FAA's ongoing work to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

I have made aviation safety and enhancing the air travel experience for passengers and crews a priority.

This behavior from a small percentage of the traveling public is disgusting, unacceptable and a danger to fellow passengers, crew and the entire U.S. aviation system.

Congress, the federal government and the aviation industry must work together to protect airline crews, airport staff and the traveling public from passenger outbursts.

There was bipartisan legislation incorporated into it... to bring back workers, to protect those workers' jobs.

The economy continues to emerge but has not yet emerged.

It is important that the economic and job opportunities available in these industries be available and accessible to all Americans.

As a white man, I acknowledge that I, too, have more work to do to understand and address the barriers, such as systemic racism, that enable inequity and injustice to persist in the United States.

Addressing these issues and others is critical to ensuring that we maintain our leadership in aerospace.

As Chair and as a Member of Congress, I have made improving diversity in the U.S. aerospace industry a priority.

I'm excited to announce that I have reintroduced the 21st Century Aerospace Infrastructure Act.

I believe that the FAA is the right agency for the job.

We must ensure that FAA develops the tools and equipment necessary to safely integrate commercial space transportation launches into our National Airspace System.

I know that Mayor Garcetti, the last time he was before our committee, noted that Republicans are Democrats that haven't been through a NEPA process.

It is our aim and our intention to lead in all of the above technologies.
