In the richest country in the history of our species, at its richest moment, not to advance forward to adopt a Medicare for All system is to deny I think the common humanity of our fellow citizens.

It is simply unconscionable that I should have to pay $9,000 per month for lifesaving medical care at a time when the insurance industry is raking in record profit.

Medicare for All is the only way to make our healthcare system more efficient.

Any proposal that maintains financial barriers to care... will necessarily leave people out.

Medicare for All will save the American people enormous sums of money.

Medicare for All will deliver to everyone living in America the high-quality care that we deserve.

I am here today to urge you to enact Medicare for All.

I have long believed that healthcare is a right for all, not a privilege for the lucky few.

This Democratic majority was built by Americans tired of political leaders who tried to sabotage their healthcare.

The Medicare for All Act would change that.

It makes it easier for schools to buy out campuses that shut their doors to students while leaving taxpayers on the hook.

The time that a student is in college. The entire time they could be at an agency that is subpar.

That is sort of like putting the foxes in charge of the henhouse.

The answer to that question is no State attorneys general were on the committee.

2 slots out of 17 were provided to representatives of students.

Would you share your enforcement practices with Congress so that we can make sure that there is enforcement around--

If you can't, you know, if you are concerned about privacy issues, will you at least commit to sharing it with Congress and with stakeholders as soon as possible?

Civil rights organizations have asked you specifically for greater transparency on your enforcement practices and training.

In my opinion, this change was long overdue. It probably should have been done a long time ago.

We are deeply concerned by proposals to cut funding to this office, to shift this office to another part of the agency.

We look forward to everyone supporting this amendment. We hope that we continue to operate in a bipartisan fashion in this Chamber to pass not only this amendment, but the full reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Madam…

I claim the time in opposition to the amendment, even though I am not opposed to it. The Acting CHAIR. Without objection, the gentlewoman from Washington is recognized for 5 minutes. There was no objection.

I think we should be looking at whether this predatory industry is deserving of Federal aid at all.

I am particularly concerned about how the lack of accountability for for-profit colleges disproportionately affects people of color.

When profits come before students my concern is that the result is lower completion rates, higher default rates, and higher costs for comparable public programs.
