I urge the Committee to approve the Veterans Fair Debt Notice Act to promote accountability, consumer protection, and efficiencies in the VA system.

In my opinion, a veteran should not have to rely on a congressional caseworker to interpret the VA's bureaucratese.

H.R. 3705, the Veterans Fair Debt Notice Act, proposes a very straightforward solution.

Current VA regulations provide that such debtors are notified by ordinary mail, which is deemed to provide a sufficient notification.

I believe my bill offers a commonsense fix to frustrations that some veterans in my district have shared with me.

That uncertainty is clear and it's costing millions, if not billions of dollars to comply with this uncertainty

The uncertainty is important.

Being in government space for a long time, in medicine, we billed Medicaid and Medicare. If we had been this sloppy in reporting to Medicaid and Medicare, I can promise you, you would be doing a perp walk somewhere.

VA should be able to do that. Most businesses can.

I find it hard to believe that all the mail VA sends is absolutely necessary, which is why I have worked on the RETIRE Act legislation to encourage electronic delivery of retirement data for ERISA employees.

The mail spending figure we have, $355 million last year, is enormous.

One of the things we can do to stop the sharing economy and this growth, this incredible growth, is to regulate it to death.
