We're going to have a little fun. We're going to be a lighthearted Committee, and we're going to be very serious about our work.

That is why, this week, I was proud to sign on as one of the original cosponsors of Ranking Member Lucas' Securing American Leadership in Science and Technology Act.

Today, we will discuss building technology research and development needs.

I say this as someone who knows the building industry firsthand.

That's why I have long prioritized investment in basic and early stage research that will drive innovation into the next century.

Doesn't it strike you that that actually creates an immediate disadvantage for applicants like Texas in a right-to-work State?

Today, we must also remember that we have limited federal R&D dollars.

I want us all to be mindful of the role that industry can and should play in this area.

In my opinion, it would be more appropriate that the local communities--yes, Texas, believe it or not, can make decisions for itself.
