While many threats impact the safety of the astronauts and the ISS, one of the biggest challenges is resupply and sustainability.
Senator Hutchison has seen this problem clearly, and has raised it in speeches and statements in hearings of the Commerce Committee.
That is the only reasonable and responsible course, if one is truly serious about extending the ISS life-time.
I completely agree with her that a new assessment must be made, immediately, of what the potential equipment servicing and replacement and down-mass requirements are expected to be from 2015 to at least 2020.
