George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
The enemy in Vietnam had neither the intent nor the capability to strike our homeland. The enemy in Iraq does.
America will change our strategy to help the Iraqis carry out their campaign to put down sectarian violence and bring security to the people of Baghdad. This will require increasing American force levels.
This is a bill where people who live here in our country will be treated will be treated without amnesty, but without animosity.
I urge the Senate to act favorably on U.S. accession to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Convention during this session of Congress.
Tonight, the president said leaving Iraq would embolden al Qaeda, embolden Iran, and threaten future generations of America.
I want you to know I see the impending dangers. I understand the consequences of this historic moment. And we will succeed in Iraq.
Time's running out, because, the longer we wait, the more strain we are going to put on the military.
I spent time talking with them about what it meant to fail and what it means when we succeed.
