As we know, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, or MACRA, repealed the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate, SGR, formula to provide long term stability to Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Congress had to enact short term patches to prevent physician payment cuts called for by the SGR 17 times.

These short term SGR patches cost taxpayers more than $170 billion and did not contain real payment reform.

Now that the historic achievement of finally repealing or replacing SGR has been made, staunch oversight over the implementation of MACRA is critical.
