I would like to extend my condolences to the people in the Philippines. They have suffered greatly.

They know where the vulnerable are. They know where the help is needed.

They not only help after a disaster, but also before.

I think it is right there with some of the great disasters of my time.

It is great to be able to prove intentionality, that there was intent to do harm.

I mention these specific examples because these are examples of how the disparate impact standard, well-settled standard, has had a positive impact on our society and especially on people in certain classes.

It is my belief that this hearing will be about whether discrimination has to have intention to be harmful.

I am also appreciative that you have embraced this hearing with an open mind so that we can come to conclusions about a long settled standard of disparate impact.

FHA was established immediately after the Great Depression partly to get the economy back on its feet again.

FHA is not a for-profit business. Is this a fair statement?

I tell people all the time that I am better than I deserve to be.

I think we could get a work product out of that.

I want to compliment you on your fine job that you are doing, and I look forward to working with you.

I regret that some of you have been detained possibly longer than we wanted you to be detained.

Currently our district has the highest percentage of people who have jobs, but no health insurance.
