We can’t let the brutality of Putin -- I started by saying he’s a baby killer. This is his war. There was no vote for this.

What is happening is that there’s Russian counsel giving guidance. And I respect that guidance. But I believe that the federal government, the United States of America, the president, because there are others being held in Russia.

Putin is a baby killer, so it is very difficult to see how he would have compassion for this young woman.

That is not just bad policy, it is not just failed policy, it is not just making us less safe, but it is policy that is actually deadly.

It is a misinterpretation of that we are promoting in our reasonable response to holding law enforcement accounting while also building police-community relationships.

Reimagining means you fund housing, education, and policing.

Would you say that many of the DOJ-funded programs like the ones you mentioned in your written statement do, in fact, work?

So, those aspects of good policing could, in fact, improve a community cooperation and information gathering?

Expanding our idea of what constitutes public safety is key to keeping our communities safe, to community-driven solutions carefully tailored to meet each community's specific needs.

At this juncture, we must not return to antiquated thinking of tough on crime laws that led to over policing, mass incarceration, and the devastation of impacted communities.

We would like to see it end, but we cannot forget those victims who are in need on these issues.

Again, we have both the Subcommittee and the Full Committee. These are important questions. I'm glad that the Chair has clarified the question of police funding...

I`d hope we would move legislation very, very quickly, because, on top of the present inflation, it would be enormously burdensome to the American people.

Frankly, Joy, I`m very concerned about President Zelensky and his cabinet, who are obviously in Kyiv and who are obviously, I believe, targets of potential violence.

If this war continues, there will be an impact even in basic goods and services.

We can actually write legislation to penalize those who would gouge.

I think the president can use his bully pulpit.

We cannot leave them alone.
