I guess the question I would like to explore a little bit is: Given the unprecedented behavior of the Fed in recent years, what is normal?

I think we need to learn the lessons of the mistakes that have been made.

It is my view that the Fed contributed to the financial crisis by virtue of monetary policy in the years preceding it.

Tax reform is working.

I would really urge you to move ahead as quickly as you reasonably can.

I think that is very constructive because the banks otherwise captured by this are, in fact, not systemically important to the country.

It is very obviously welcome but also important to confirm the people who have been nominated to open seats on the Federal Reserve Board.

I would like to thank you and your colleagues at CMS for your work on the Medicare Part D patient review and restriction program.

It is important that we do not ignore the Medicare population when it comes to this epidemic.

Because, from what I have seen, it looks like we are falling way, way short of the total goal.

I was a little shocked to learn that in a typical year, 2016 anyway, one out of three beneficiaries received an opioid prescription.

I remain concerned that the administration's trade agenda is centered on reducing the U.S. trade deficit...

Our Medicaid program is an important tool in providing health care to many Americans but we must put it on a stable long-term sustainable footing for it to be there for this and future generations.

And at one point, every Democrat in the United States Senate supported establishing these per-capita caps in a restructure of Medicaid.

It strikes me, it long has struck me, that one of the sensible places to begin to address this is with Medicaid.

I just think we cannot underscore enough that you cannot tax your way out of a problem.

The administration's budget in your area, I think, strikes some constructive balances.

I think this is very important and I hope you will support our effort to get that done.

We are now at approximately 3 percent before the tremendous benefits of this tax reform have fully kicked in.

Let me briefly thank you and congratulate you for your work and that of your team on tax reform.

I think those are the reasons why it is perfectly reasonable to not automatically designate, for yet another regulatory overlay, those banks that do not create this systemic risk.

My understanding is if our economy grows by three-or four--tenths of 1 percent faster than it would have in the absence of the tax reform, Federal revenue will actually be greater than the current policy baseline.
