A government of the people, by the people, for the people should mean all the people.

Suffrage is as fundamental a right as any in our Constitution, and the right to vote lies at the very heart of our democracy.

The discrimination, the atrocities continue.

We are here to acknowledge the terrible wrong in history, to recognize the continuation of those injuries.

As troubling as this topic is, I can't tell you how glad that we are here today.

I, too, am baffled that we are even having this conversation or that we have forced you to come here and share your heartbreak.

That is why I am a proud cosponsor of the bill.

I am sorry that you have to be here again to plead your case to reauthorize the Victim Compensation Fund, a decision that, as Mr. Stewart says, should be a no-brainer.

The recent laws enacted in Alabama and Georgia flagrantly flout the precedents of this Court. They are patently unconstitutional.

Enough is enough. Congress must now stand up with women and men around the country to say we will not turn back the clock on women's constitutional rights and women's autonomy.

And this is not only happening in the States. Here in the United States Congress, the Republican-controlled Senate is considered a ban on abortion after 20 weeks, a bill that has no basis in science and is prima facie unconstitutional.

Under the disingenuous claim that these types of laws protect women's health, these States are deliberately attempting to put abortion out of reach, particularly for low-income women and women of color.

The last few weeks have seen an all-out frontal attack on the right of every woman in this country to access abortion, but this fight is not new, and these laws have not come out of nowhere.

If women cannot make decisions about their reproductive health, they cannot make decisions about starting a career, going to school, opening a business, and planning their lives.

It turns out that silencing all of these women in our country ends up being the harasser's best friend.

The bill was reintroduced in the House, H.R. 1443, a bill to restore workplace harassment victims' constitutional 7th amendment right to a jury trial instead of the secrecy of forced arbitration.

I ask you today, what is fair about that?
