The defense industrial base is dominated by a handful of massive corporations that have gobbled up competitors. These five companies have a lot of power and responsibility to supply our military. But what are they doing with that power…

We think we are at this critical moment where we have a chance to have more veterans who are now eligible come into the VA.

This country has a sacred obligation to all of you, to all of us to care for you.

This defense industry consolidation, this lack of competition, it's leaving us, I fear, ill-prepared and harming our national security and readiness.

I think Washington is waking up more and more to these costs.

And the third constituency is the American people, because it is your sons and daughters that are going to do the fighting and dying if we defend Taiwan against an attack by China.

It is important for the Taiwanese to know whether we are going to defend them or not.

So, for me, strategic clarity means that we are clear as a nation that we would defend Taiwan if China attacks Taiwan to forcibly reunite with them.

The second constituency is the Chinese themselves. They need to know the cost of invading Taiwan.
