Vice President Cheney was in Cleveland this week trying to explain the President's economic policy to a State which has lost one-sixth of its manufacturing jobs since President Bush and Vice President Cheney took office, a State that has lost almost 200,000 jobs overall, a State that has lost 195 jobs every single day of the Bush administration. His answer to Ohio's economic problems is more tax cuts for the wealthiest people in the State hoping those tax cuts will trickle-down and create jobs. That clearly has not worked. And his other answer is more trade agreements like NAFTA and other trade agreements which have hemorrhaged jobs and shipped jobs overseas. Clearly we need a new direction. The Bush economic policies are not working in the industrial Midwest. They are not working in small-town Ohio; they are not working in the big cities. We need a different economic policy. The Bush program simply is not working.
