Madam President, I don't know where to start. I listened to Senator Kyl, whom I really do like personally, and respect, but I just hear so much. Of course, it is not just Senator Kyl; it is almost all of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle who have just engaged in scare tactics. First, they try to scare the middle class and scare people who have parents who are older by talking about death panels. Well, that didn't work because nobody believed that. Some people believed it, but most rational people didn't believe it. Then they try to scare people who have health insurance by saying it is going to be taken away. I am particularly amused--again, probably a wrong choice of words-- when my Republican colleagues talk about cutting Medicare. Just look at the history. They have built careers trying to destroy Medicare. I haven't been around here since 1965 by a long shot, but I sure read about 1965. The Presiding Officer knows this history. She has talked to people in Charlotte and Winston-Salem.…

By any measure, this is the worst vote he’s cast in the Senate, but it’s a continuum of his running for special interests his whole career.
I thank the gentlewoman for pulling the CBC together for this Special Order hour along with the gentleman from Illinois (Mr. Jackson). I am honored to join my CBC colleagues in recognition of the 100th birthday of the great Shirley…
