We need to be more involved in the process.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, I made the following request for information.

Most people who are on SNAP who can work, do work. You can take that back, too.

It is just difficult for me to believe that there is no culture of favoritism based upon what I see.

I am extremely concerned about the lack of urgency that your Department put forth to provide information that we requested, timely.

Civil rights--the equal treatment of everyone in the building and outside of it--is fundamentally bigger than the blue-red lens we see things through these days.

The purpose of today's hearing is to ensure the Department of Agriculture functions equally for everyone it serves and employs, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or any other protected class.

The responsibility now starts and ends with you.

Civil rights, the equal treatment of everyone in the building and outside of it, is fundamentally bigger than the blue/red lens we see things through these days.

The Supreme Court has a responsibility to protect that right so that every citizen is considered equal.

Voter suppression is pervasive. Voters in this country face extraordinary barriers to the ballot.

I bet you, any other democracy in this world doesn't do what we do. We should make it a holiday.

If we really are patriots and believe in what the Constitution says and believe in this great Nation, then we need to make it easier to vote.

The more we try to erode the rights of people in this country--it is not going to stop at voting. It is going to get worse.

All these people who say they believe in the Constitution, they can't possibly, because it says that we all have a right--an unfettered, unabridged right to vote.

I do not believe that people like me, who have helped build this Nation, who have never done anything to hurt this country, should be made to go through all kinds of hoops to be able to do what the Constitution gives us the right to do.

What is the purpose of placing those impediments?

I think it is illegal for us to even hold them to State standards.

Our goal should be a system where all eligible voters can cast ballots without barriers and have confidence that their votes are counted accurately.

Voting is a right. And so we need to be encouraging people to vote and not trying to discourage them.

When we disenfranchise people who have paid their debt to society, we have violated the Constitution.

Uniformity is not really fairness or equity. So I think Ohio should be in that number.

I live in a county of more than a million people. We have one early voting site. One.

I urge this Committee and this Congress to carefully study the record amassed during the extensive hearings and field work and to fulfill the promise of our Constitution and restore protections needed to ensure that African Americans…
