there will be a great debate this week about the war in Iraq. Will we debate whether Iraq had anything to do with 9/11? No, because everyone knows Iraq did not. Will we debate whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? No, because everyone knows Iraq did not. Will we debate the administration's exit strategy? No, because they don't have one. It will be an interesting debate, because the very reasons which brought Members to vote for the war no longer have a basis in fact. They keep changing day by day, the reasons, why we are in Iraq. And as each new reason is brought to light, it keeps evaporating like the sun evaporates the morning dew. After a while, the war becomes self-justifying, a patriotic exercise. So we will engage in a great debate about a war that is not so great, about a war based on a lie while our troops and innocent civilians die as we debate greatly. ____________________
