When you talk to Democrats most of them are not talking about impeachment because they know that the voters don't want to hear about that.

- I would just like to say in response to my friends that my amendment will correct a bipartisan error and, second, that you can't destroy a missile system that doesn't work. I will just conclude by saying that Philip Coyle, a former Assistant Secretary of Defense, has said the national missile defense system has become a theology in the United States, not a technology. We may have faith that it works, but we are taught that we have to justify our faith by good works. They don't have any good works connected to this.2 sources2011govinfo.gov
- the independent contractor provision in the Revenue Reconciliation Act will do great damage to employer relations in our country. Millions of Americans would lose health care coverage and pension benefits. Working women would suffer the most. For women, being an independent contractor means much lower wages than male employees in similar jobs. What about health care and pensions? Only 2 percent of women independent contractors have health care and pensions paid by their employers. Women also would lose critical employment protections. Independent contractors are not covered by equal employment opportunity laws. They do not receive family and medical leave. Some employers have misclassified janitors and garment workers to evade minimum wage and overtime laws affecting many low-wage workers who are women. Working women have fought hard to win equal employment opportunity, fair wages, and economic security. The independent contractor provision would be a disaster for them and their families. That is why a coalition of 130 women's organizations is against this measure. Finally, Madam Speaker, the bipartisan budget bill is the wrong vehicle to carry this issue.2 sources1997govinfo.gov
Republicans I talked to, they don't want to run on Trump or this. In the districts that matter, in the districts that are going to make the majority, there are not -- they don't want to be talking about this. They want to talk about taxes.
So why hasn't the President directed DHS and some of those other officials that are in charge of making sure this election, 2018, which is right around the corner, that they're protected, that they're actively doing things.
Mike Pence, I think, really helps that message a lot because he's someone who has been in Indiana.
I want to begin by thanking my wife, Elizabeth, who is here in the gallery, for her constant support during my service in the United States Congress and to thank the people of Ohio's 10th Congressional District for their constant support…
A New Year's deal for New Year's Day--or is it Groundhog Day? Because like the movie ``Groundhog Day,'' this government in 2 months will arrive at another crisis of debt, of spending, and taxes. Our debt-based economic system, with its…
First of all, I want to begin by thanking the chair and the ranking member for their commitment to security, to Israel and to the region. I want to thank Mr. Kelly for his commitment, similarly. In my office, which I recently shut down…
We have to look at the implications of this. If you have European countries who are essentially part of the UNIFIL presence in south Lebanon in furtherance of a U.N. resolution to end hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, to create…
What I would like to do, Mr. Chairman, is to present to you and the ranking member reports that have been forwarded to me regarding these casualties. Maybe these are reports that you've seen, and maybe they aren't; but I certainly think…
I have no question about the commitment of the chair and the ranking member to proper oversight, but what I do question is that the proliferation of the drone strikes puts such an extraordinary burden on our own oversight capacities. I'm…
I thank my friend. And I want to thank both my friends, the chair and the ranking member, for the work that they do on intelligence. You make a commitment to this country, and I think the country is in good hands because of your work. I…
The question settling over this Capitol as we face the fiscal cliff is: How can this be happening? It's hyperpartisanship meets Citizens United. America's politics are so saturated with money and so politically polarized that the system…
Neil Armstrong's voyage to the Moon represented a personal heroic journey, and it was also expressive of a uniquely American capability and capacity to reach higher and higher, to expand our horizons, to seek newer worlds, and to do that…
I do question the effectiveness of this drone program, its adherence to international law or lack thereof, the intel gathering on targeted killings where we've seen reports of efforts of one group to target individuals and other groups as…
The Anasazi were Native Americans whose culture dated back 2,000 years. They were the cliff dwellers who built into the sheer walls of canyons extraordinary places to live. Yet, in 1300 A.D., these cliff dwellers, these great architects of…
Will seniors be pushed off the fiscal cliff? Social Security did not cause the deficit, but the White House's plan to lower Social Security cost-of-living benefits could eventually reduce seniors' annual benefits by hundreds of dollars…
In this discussion over the NDAA, we arrive at a moment where we meet the moral consequences of our Nation's choices over the past decade. We chose war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and perhaps later on Iran…
This past September 11, four Americans, including our Ambassador, were killed in Benghazi. The responsibility for security failures has now been placed on the State Department. End of story? No. The deeper question is why did the U.S…
We are locked into a cultural matrix of thinking which produces violence, and we are shocked when its heartbreaking effects emerge. It's ``us versus them'' thinking, this evocation of enemies, whoever they are. On a global level, this type…
I thank the gentlelady from California for yielding. Mr. McKEON. I continue to reserve the balance of my time.
Nearly 50 million Americans--over 10 million children-- live in poverty and 46 million Americans on food stamps. According to the Census Bureau, without Social Security over 50 percent of people 65 and older would live and die in poverty…
Before Congress adjourns, this House will vote on my resolution of inquiry about the U.S.' use of drones. The vote will not be about the thousands of deaths of innocent civilians caused by drones, though that's important. It won't be about…
Over 12 million Americans are unemployed while our infrastructure is falling apart. But at least the U.S. is creating some jobs--for spies. The Washington Post says the Pentagon will dramatically expand the role and size of its own…
You think cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid should be part of a budget deal? America's economic collapse was fed by Wall Street greed in the form of a $6 trillion housing bubble. This brought large budget deficits. Some who…
