I will be sending a letter to the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. requesting China cease intimidation tactics and cooperate with this investigation.

We need to investigate the origins of COVID. We need to know what we knew when, and we need to share that with the American people.

Why? Why? What is the motive for that?

Well, we have some news for Beijing: these intimidation tactics will not work.

Merely just saying it here doesn't mean it happens. We do that a lot here in Washington.

It is one thing to have a requirement, but the requirement is nothing if there is not an opportunity.

You know, in Washington you hope that the name of a program or the name of a bill lives up to its billing, right?

I have concerns when we waive intellectual property rights.

Honesty really does help, no matter what we are dealing with.

And that's why, Mr. Chairman, this hearing is so darn important that we get to the bottom of really what happened.

Unfortunately, the question of the origins has been politicized. That's no secret.

We've got to get past that.

Where did COVID-19 come from? Did it come from a natural spillover, transferred from a bat to an intermediate source to human?

The work has already begun. Thus far, the Select Subcommittee has sent letters of inquiry to the Department of Health and Human Services.

We need to get it out. No more. For this committee, and as a general discussion across America, I hope that that can change.

This question is fundamental to helping us predict and prevent future pandemics, protecting our health and national security.

COVID hurt us all. Kids have lost years of education.

We have one party that brags about putting more people in it and another participate that says we want fewer people to need it.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act did a lot for this country.
