The fraud is a great concern of mine. Child identity theft is a serious problem in our country.

I worked with my colleague, Representative Blumenauer, to introduce the Social Security Child Protection Act.

It is just shocking to hear that such a vital piece of a child's identity was compromised before he--before she was only one month old.

I'd like to express my strong personal support for an amendment submitted by Representative Lisa McClain for this year's NDAA.

I appreciate Representative McClain's effort and urge this committee to support the inclusion of her amendment in the final committee product.

I think it is important to always keep that in consideration and in the right context.

It takes us down a dark, difficult path and one that we all, I hope, don't want to go down...

We don't talk about the value of someone's life. It is all dollars and cents.

It takes away the power of hope. And I don't mean false hope.

I looked her in the eye, and I said, do you know why we are here? Do you know why we are in Congress? Because you have taken the joy out of taking care of people.

You know, it is discouraging to see at any time if we are doing things that inhibit innovation and limit patient access to the latest treatments or discourage investment in new technologies and cures.

Let's reject extreme partisan rhetoric and work together to save lives. The American people deserve nothing less.

Why? Why? What is the motive for that?

These scientists flipped 180 degrees with no new evidence, produced a paper not based on facts...

I will be sending a letter to the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. requesting China cease intimidation tactics and cooperate with this investigation.

We need to investigate the origins of COVID. We need to know what we knew when, and we need to share that with the American people.

Well, we have some news for Beijing: these intimidation tactics will not work.

Merely just saying it here doesn't mean it happens. We do that a lot here in Washington.

It is one thing to have a requirement, but the requirement is nothing if there is not an opportunity.

You know, in Washington you hope that the name of a program or the name of a bill lives up to its billing, right?

I have concerns when we waive intellectual property rights.

Honesty really does help, no matter what we are dealing with.

We need to get it out. No more. For this committee, and as a general discussion across America, I hope that that can change.

And that's why, Mr. Chairman, this hearing is so darn important that we get to the bottom of really what happened.
