I still believe Trump is a fascist and a despot, but I viewed our first face-to-face meeting as an opportunity to work together.

Zohran Mamdani is a member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 36th district. Elected as a Democrat, he is known for his progressive policies and advocacy for social justice. Mamdani has focused on issues such as housing equity, healthcare access, and environmental justice during his time in office. He has been an outspoken advocate for the rights of marginalized communities in New York.
And we also wanted to focus on what it could look like to deliver on a shared analysis of an affordability crisis for New Yorkers.
What I appreciated about the conversation that I had with the president was that we were not shy about the places of disagreement, about the politics that has brought us to this moment.
There were more New Yorkers who voted for President Trump in the most recent presidential election because of that focus on cost of living
It was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers.
So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.
I intend to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any agenda that benefits New Yorkers.
We focus on that same cost of living, and that’s where I am really looking forward to delivering for New Yorkers in partnership with the president on the affordability agenda.
I'm not concerned about this meeting. I view this meeting as an opportunity for me to make my case.
His threats are inevitable. This has nothing to do with safety, it has to do with intimidation.
