We're also in the process of implementing a program called Community Disaster Resilience Zones--this is directed by Congress--to also give us the opportunity to increase the Federal cost share for these communities.

Where is the money? How much of that has gone directly to affected communities? What's the hold-up over at FEMA?

I'd welcome the opportunity for my office to work with yours on ways that Congress can be helpful to that end.

This is a classic Government bait-and-switch where the Government is telling air travelers to pay that fee to make them safer, but it's going elsewhere.

I think that we can do--do better.

Twenty-five loans a year is so low it is honestly a little bit offensive that that is considered an exemption.

the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is using resources at its disposal to create rules to add to these very real pressures instead of mitigating them.

We are on a pace to double last year's numbers, and the Coast Guard is being stretched extremely thin.

The reality in which we live is that in the last fiscal year, in the 12 months of fiscal year 2022, the Coast Guard interdicted 12,000 migrants at sea.

Thank you for your leadership and for focusing this committee's attention on securing America's maritime border.

We are frustrated that the President and Secretary Mayorkas have failed to enforce those laws and properly utilize those resources.

The Federal Government has a responsibility to secure our border.

Would the addition of more fiber optic sensors increase our border security?

Most of us in this room and back at home learned in about the 11th grade that, in the Legislative branch, we pass the laws, and we appropriate and authorize the money; and the Executive branch enforces the laws and spends that money.

We have tons of fentanyl deaths in our county, about 400 recently.
