I am saying these multinational corporations are leaving our jurisdiction and avoiding tax liability so they don't pay the 35 percent. Isn't that true?

I do hope that there would be informal discussions as to how we can help our country out and avoid people saying that, under this President, nothing meaningful will be done.

It would seem to me that we ought to get together, as Members of the Committee, and decide what it is that we would want to do without the hearings.

I am always encouraged when there is words like 'bipartisanship.'

I don't see a partisan issue here.

It is so painful that we can't find some common ground as we end the Obama Administration.

They are crippled now, and all I want to know is in terms of fiscal relief, I mean, what you talk about is equity and fairness that we should have had.

Puerto Rico's health care system has been far below the national in terms of the access to quality health care.

It is my understanding that some 26 of the major Fortune 500 corporations pay no taxes at all

Compromise and working things out is the only way to get something done

It is hard to find Republicans willing to put their names on anything, no matter how much of a distortion of the Tax Code it is

I thank the gentleman. I close by saying, everybody here knows this will never become law. It is a political statement. As a politician, there is nothing wrong with political statements. But to have one that is so wrapped up with hypocrisy…

It shouldn't be before our Committee. It's a national security issue.

But who is going to tell me sitting here, just put up your hand to say that the education of Americans' ability to make a contribution to our national defense is a State issue?

How can we sit here and say that the cost of labor and the disparity that we have in income is going to make it possible for a guy with our salary, that you are concerned about your kids getting an education?

I come at this with a strong, emotional bias that out of the pits of a high school dropout...

I cannot think of any issue more important to my country than the issue that you have raised.

As a patriot, are any of you going to tell me that education is a local issue and that the States are not being responsible when we are talking about technology, science, cyber space?

I thank the ranking member. Are we here to embarrass Presidents, Republicans, and Democrats or are we here to preserve the dignity and the integrity of the United States of America, no matter who is the President? If ever there was a time…

I certainly hope that it would be possible to take advantage of this opportunity for you to see the issues that we are wrestling with.

This is the problem that some of us had in Congress, and not rocking the boat, and I am surprised that this panel is affected the same way by powerful people that decide policy on health care, as well as disability.
