“Mr. Chairman, here we are tonight, 6 months under control of the Democrat majority, and what has that majority wrought? The largest tax increase in U.S. history, an attempt in the past to change the rules of the House that have been in place since the times of Jefferson. And, of course, last week we saw the creation or attempted creation of slush funds to conceal where they wish to spend their increase of dollars. The gentleman from New Jersey who just spoke a moment ago said, quite candidly, that there is no tax increase this year or next year. What he didn't finish in his statement, of course, was, Mr. Chairman, that there will be a tax increase within the budget cycle that is before us. And these are not just my words, Mr. Chairman. I quote from the New York Times, who has looked at the budget that the Democrats have given us, and they have looked at that budget increase and the spending increase, and they too have said and agree with us that there is a tax increase coming on the American public and they even gave us numbers.”
