Among the people who work the hardest in our country are those who make the least. Tonight we are about to vote for a long overdue increase in the minimum wage. At a time of booming prosperity, lowered unemployment, and greater opportunity, it is unconscionable that we have waited this long to raise the minimum wage for our lowest paid people. To make them wait for 3 years would be even more unconscionable.
