Our energy is going to be controlled by foreign countries, over 50 percent of it, and it is going to change the entire landscape.

Safe access to the east coast is essential to many maritime users, including the maritime shipping industry, and all of you are represented on this panel today.

In this Congress, one of my agendas is going to be to focus on the impact... that offshore wind industrialization has on the Atlantic maritime supply chain.

Unrestrained shore wind threatens this safety.

Do large maritime shipping vessels rely on radar for safe navigation?

These things considered, do you agree with BOEM's assessment that these offshore wind projects... would have a major and potentially dangerous impact on maritime shipping on the east coast?

Last week, I questioned the Maritime Administrator who admitted that the Government has not scrutinized this issue.

The impacts of offshore wind on navigation and vessel traffic... would be, quote, 'major,' and that it would increase, quote, 'the risk of collision.'

There has been much proof that they are actually going to cost a great deal of money, that people's utility rates are going to go up.

Congress must shine a light on the true costs of offshore wind industrialization, and hold this Government accountable.

I ask unanimous consent that the record of today's hearing remain open until such time as our witnesses have provided answers to any questions that may be submitted to them in writing.

I know that if there was a difficult situation, I would want someone that was fully trained and certified, and didn't just start yesterday--no fault to that person--handling a situation where so many lives are in danger.

The fishermen are against it. It is dangerous to the fishermen.

I would maintain that it is also dangerous for the maritime industry.

I live on the east coast, obviously. I live--it is what is called the Jersey Shore. We now have along the east coast 25 dead whales.

It is dangerous to the environment, it is dangerous to the Cold Pool, which is a very environmentally sensitive area, it is dangerous to all this wildlife.

Parents should never, ever have to go through that. The relationship between a parent and a child is extremely important, and I think the parent always has the ultimate say.
