The brand-name drug companies always say that they need to charge more because of research and development, when in reality what we know is a lot of the extra cost is just for advertising so that they can advertise the name-brand drug rather than the generic drug; and one of the ways that they could reduce costs is if they tried to encourage more use of generics, obviously; or I think in the Senate there was a proposal, which I think is a great idea, to say that that someone cannot take a tax deduction for advertising. In other words, someone can take a tax deduction for money they expend on research and development, but not for advertising.
