There is also a direct relationship between the amount of advertising that the company does and the percentage of the youth market that they end up with. Again, from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, 86 percent of kids who smoke prefer Marlboro, Camel and Newport, which are the three most heavily advertised brands, and Marlboro, the most heavily advertised, constitutes almost 60 percent of the youth market, but about 25 percent of the adult market. So there is no question that this advertising is causing kids to smoke, and that there is a direct benefit from the advertising.
