yesterday I was joined by Congressman Floyd Flake in introducing legislation entitled the Jackie Robinson Commemorative Coin Act. Our bill authorizes the minting of one-dollar coins to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the breaking of the color barrier in major league baseball by Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was, in all respects, a great American. If all Jackie Robinson had done was to integrate baseball, that alone would have ensured his place in history. But Jackie Robinson also made baseball truly the national pastime through his outstanding accomplishments on and off the field. Mr. Speaker, Jackie Robinson is still admired by millions of Americans today, I ask my colleagues to join me in paying tribute to this great athlete and humanitarian by supporting this legislation.
