In the wealthiest nation in the world, people should not be hungry, full stop.

We are failing at our obligation as policy makers and as stewards of taxpayer dollars when we neglect our oversight committees.

I want to first reiterate how important it is for this Committee, and frankly, all the committees of Congress to bring forward to the Administration for conversations such as these.

Over 70 percent of our 18 year olds to 21, 22 year olds don't qualify to get in the military largely because of physical fitness and nutrition.

I think nutrition and fresh foods is a very important topic here.

thank you for holding this critical hearing to receive comments and review the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) food distribution programs.

It's a mistake to take people off Committees because this is a precedent that the Democrats are going to have to live by when they are the minority and I say that as someone I think it's bad for the institution.

They`re being intentionally deceived by some folks in our party in Washington and some of the so-called conservative media outlets. To say that a bill is right for your district, right for your state, and that -- something you helped…

We have to do more to take care of those who have protected us, who have served us.

I echo your comments about Veterans Day. I thank all our veterans who are listening, and I am one myself.

That is why, to address that specific issue, I introduced the bipartisan Military Hunger Prevention Act.

we do not want that to be considered taxable income, or real taxable income, because it will end up being a 10 or 20 percent cut with taxes taken out for these individuals.

I think we have so many more enlisted members who are supporting families and need additional supports.

And so, what we have seen is, like, every year, you get a cost-of-living increase, but when you do a three percent raise, for example, at a lower pay versus the higher grades, the disparity keeps getting bigger.

I hope we can all agree that even one hungry veteran or servicemember is too many.

In your view, are there Federal policies that are inhibiting folks from getting back into the workforce?

It is a big concern in Nebraska, the price of these inputs, so I am sure that is a concern for all of our farmers right now, not just in Nebraska.

What impresses me in Nebraska, a lot of the trucking companies will pay folks to go through the training.
