Max Baucus

Max Baucus is a former U.S. Senator from Montana, serving from 1978 to 2014. A member of the Democratic Party, Baucus was known for his work on health care reform and tax policy. He played a significant role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act and was a key advocate for various economic initiatives during his tenure. Baucus also served as the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, where he influenced legislation related to taxation and trade. After leaving the Senate, he was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to China, where he focused on strengthening U.S.-China relations.
I think all of us have a moral obligation... we leave it in as good a shape or better shape than we found it.
I was concerned about American competitiveness and the need for more up to date infrastructure.
Let's just look at Harbor Maintenance, for example. It is my understanding, frankly, that you estimate that full channel dimensions at the Nation's busiest 59 ports are available at less than 35 percent of the time.
Obvious question is, how do you propose to do more with less? We have fewer dollars.
The proposals go along with the territory. If you are going to make grand statements, you have an obligation to back them up.
I will be totally candid. This reminds me of the Administration's proposal on the Highway Trust Fund. Basically proposing $556 billion in highways, roads, bridges and so forth, but no proposal how to pay for it.
