The deaths of Hortman and her husband were a political assassination.

Americans don't settle our differences with violence or at gunpoint.

We must all, in Minnesota and across the country, stand against all forms of political violence.

Out of an abundance of caution my Department of Public Safety is recommending that people do not attend any political rallies today in Minnesota until the suspect is apprehended.

We are cautiously optimistic they will survive this assassination attempt.

Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them. We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon.
