I find reports of the Trump administration's plan to cut the budget of the Coast Guard by as much as 14 percent to be troubling and disconnected with the value of this unique military service.

Given the myriad tasks we ask of the Coast Guard, I believe now is the time to increase the Coast Guard's budget, not cut it.

The Coast Guard is absolutely essential to making the Great Lakes accessible, clean and safe for commercial and recreational users alike.
