As we continue our efforts to put our economy back on track, we should be committed to fostering the creation of small businesses and give them the support and resources they need to succeed.

I am also certain that there isn't a person in this hearing room today that does not recognize how important small businesses are to our economy.

There is much that can be done to reduce the regulatory burden on emerging small businesses by reviewing duplicative or outdated regulations.

I am certainly looking forward to working with you on the important issues that come before this Subcommittee.

I expect that many of us will also be united in our desire to create an environment for small business creation.

I have long championed providing incentives to companies that co-locate research and development activities with domestic manufacturing.

But the companies--excuse me. But the companies in their testimony actually said that they can't do this without the taxpayer providing the indemnification.

Why is that in taxpayers' interest not to receive at least some portion of the long-term profitability of intellectual property rights?

I have to tell you I am just not actually clear where or who this other market is that somehow is out there.

The taxpayer does, too.

Unfortunately, my Republican colleagues no longer see eye to eye with their Party's former president.

I found it curious that the Inspector General of the Department of the Interior took two years after I had left the Department to come ask me anything about any of those cases.

We have about a $2 trillion infrastructure deficit. That is money that we really need to spend on infrastructure.

They are urging the EPA, in fact, to act quickly to implement the rules.

It makes entire sense that the EPA has really taken this on to try to balance all of those interests.
