I do hereby urge the citizens of the United States to honor our American Merchant Marine on Wednesday, May 22 1963, by displaying the flag of the United States at their homes and other suitable places.
John Kennedy
The Public Record
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1961, until his assassination on November 22, 1963. A member of the Democratic Party, he was born in Massachusetts and is often remembered for his leadership during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. Kennedy also established the Peace Corps, promoting international service and cooperation, and he advocated for civil rights, laying the groundwork for future legislation in this area.
I also invite the Governors of the States to provide for the observance of National Defense Transportation Day and National Transportation Week in such manner as will afford an opportunity for the citizens of each community to recognize…
I can't indicate the roads by which there will be a change, but I've seen enough... to make me feel that time will see Cuba free again.
I don't see anything in the economy that would make the tax bill unnecessary.
The Executive Branch of the Federal Government will continue to enforce the laws of the United States as vigorously and effectively as possible.
I urge our people to participate, together with the transportation industry, representatives of the armed forces, and other governmental agencies, in the observance of these occasions by appropriate ceremonies.
I share the Commission's stated goal of assuring for all citizens of the United States the full enjoyment of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
We are delighted to have her here and also because she is her mother's daughter, who is so highly regarded here, and her father's daughter, who has worked so hard to make a reality of the general aspirations of which I spoke.
