So when you take all that into account, that is the size of the cuts and the programs you would have to cut to achieve a reduction in spending of that size.
I think it is fair to ask, and I think Dr. Holtz-Eakin can raise this, how the national debt got so large.
These extremist House Republicans are demanding massive, across-the-board spending cuts.
So serious conversations about reducing the national debt should start with rebalancing our tax system, not start with how to hurt families.
